A Very Funky Zodiac Astrographic Automatic Mystery Dial on its Original NSA Bracelet circa 1975
In the late 1960s, the Astrographic watch made its debut with a distinctive design that included a red moon to indicate the seconds, orbiting the dial alongside floating hour and minute hands. After Zodiac went bankrupt in 1997, it experienced a resurgence the following year when Zenender International Inc. acquired the brand. However, during this transition, many of Zodiac’s signature collections, such as the Seawolf, most automatic chronographs, and the Swiss Formulas, were discontinued, leaving only the Super Sea Wolf and Marine Life models in production.
What’s on Offer
A cool piece of 1970s Zodiac history here in the shape of this Astrograhic automatic with a striking sunburst blue mystery dial. Reminiscent of a UFO, the round case and smooth lines make for really comfortable wear, which of course was the aim of the design. It also has really substantial proportions which gives it a nice presence on the wrist. The red moon seconds sweep around the dial and really pop from the blue and the subtle date aperture at 12 completes a really stylish unique dial which is encapsulated in a Zodiac-branded crystal face. Various signs of wear can be seen on the case such as light scratching and blemishes and the glass has become faded with time. These are small inconveniences for such a great watch and they easily go unnoticed. A stylish everyday wearer at a great price point.
