What’s on Offer
It doesn’t get more collectable when it comes to vintage Tudor than this beauty! The 7928 has become very much sought after and this MK5 example is in particularly nice vintage condition.
Over the production run, there were several variations in the case and dial, making this reference the most diverse in Tudors submariner collection however one thing remained throughout – the modified Fleurier cal. 390.
The dial MK5 dial features a gilt chapter ring, silver print, steel hands and is marked T SWiss T at 6 o’clock. The matt dial shows a fairly even patina alongside its oversized hour plots which still retain their original lume as do the Mercedes hands and it has aged to a stunning pale vanilla colour warming the dial nicely. The upper half of the dial features the classic small Tudor Rose underwritten by Oyster-Prince. The lower section of the dial features the 200m = 660ft SUBMARINER and the two last lines Rotor and Self-winding which of course denoted the automatic movement.
The 7928 was the first Tudor Submariner to have crown guards, which evolved several times throughout its production – this MK5 iteration has the rounded crown guards which are very well preserved. The caseback is engraved with: Original Oyster Case by Rolex Geneva.
The ‘ghosted bezel’ is still in superb condition, there are some signs of wear but nothing of any concern and for those who appreciate the joy of vintage watch collecting, this is all part of the charm! The watch is paired with the 9315 Z5 oyster bracelet which is also in very good shape.
At 40mm this is a meaty watch on the wrist but it remains relatively light and is certainly comfortable. We love this piece and will be sad to see it go, it is certainly one for the more discerning collector!
