The Sea Turtle is a very old wise creature who has lived on earth even before the dinosaurs. Iroquois people believe the Turtle as a symbol of the continent of North America, called Turtle Island. Some Polynesian stories tell of “Great Mother Turtle” finding a place to rest in the middle of the ocean, her back becoming the islands and the sandy beaches.
