Built in 1944, USS Kittiwake served for 54 years in many important missions around the world. This included the recovery of the black box recorder from the doomed Challenger spaceship in 1986. On January 5th, 2011, the Cayman Government oversaw the deliberate sinking of the Kittiwake to form a new artificial reef.

Oris produced this limited edition reference to commemorate the deliberate sinking of the USSKittiwake in Grand Cayman.The watchwas designed toinspire visitors to the sitewith a professionaland trusted dive timepiece.Limited to only 500 pieces, this watch is a rare find and when originally sold adonation was given to the Kittiwake Artificial Reef project by Oris, there is a plaque in the engine room to denote this.

This watch is in superb preowned condition with very few signs of wear. The black wave dial is absolutely stunning and boasts applied hour markers with luminous inserts and the hands also have luminous inserts – of course, dive watches need this for visibility in low light. There is also a date feature at 6 o’clock. The bezel is also in superb blemish-free condition and features a rotation safety system tested to 1000 metres.the back of this unique watch features the Kittiwake logo, together with the diver down warning flag on the dial, marking the association with the historic ship and its role asthe holy grailof dive sites.

At 46mm this is a meaty watch on the wrist and certainly won’t go unnoticed, but it is surprisingly light and comfortable. This is a great watch and will no doubt give the wearer many years of accurate timekeeping and a stylish wrist piece to boot. It is sold in fantastic condition along with its box and papers.
